Wayne, Pa (August 29, 2022) — Ecolane, an industry leading provider of intelligent web-based transit scheduling software, is excited to announce that their self-service web portal and mobile app has achieved compliance with ADA requirements and WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards for digital accessibility.

At the forefront of the paratransit market, Ecolane is committed to designing equitable transportation software - allowing all people to move about within their communities with a similar level of planning, effort, time and expense.

Additionally, it is vital for Ecolane’s clients to have software that is compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The act requires programs funded by U.S. federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology (EIT) accessible to people with disabilities.

“We are delighted to provide transit agencies with a technology that is designed around the needs of the communities they serve,” said Spiro Gjorgjievski, President of Ecolane. “Public transportation is a lifeline necessity for so many and we are committed to continually evolving our technologies to make it intuitive and accessible to all,” He continued, “Providing services that meet the needs of disabled people is not a sideline. It addresses the needs of the majority of people we serve every day.”

Ecolane's Development Team dedicated months to updating the platform to receive Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) for their IOS, Android, and Web Portal platforms. Third party testing was performed by accessibility experts at Deque using automated testing software, screen readers, a color contrast analyzer, keyboard-only navigation techniques, and a variety of bookmarklets. Some of the updates include alternative text associated with images and other non-text elements and navigational aids.

“Ecolane’s entire team is proud that our mobile app is ADA and WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliant,” said Satish Agrawal, Chief Architect at Ecolane. “We are always striving to design and deliver transit solutions that are accessible and equitable for everyone.”

The benefits to their clients are two-fold: accessibility and equity for all, while also helping agencies avoid the risk of lawsuits for not meeting the requirements of all riders. Agencies can have confidence knowing that the Ecolane platform has both superior functionality and legal protection for digital accessibility.

If you want to ensure your transportation software maximizes transit accessibility and efficiency, Ecolane has a complete line of products and services to help.
