Thoughts on Transit

Ecolane Welcomes Mike Scanlon to the Team

by Ecolane / May 7, 2018

Ecolane welcomes Mike Scanlon, a leader and a veteran of more than 50 years in the transportation industry. To say that Mike is a seasoned professional is an understatement; he has helped shape the transportation industry as we know it today. He was the CEO of SamTrans, but he also spent 26 years as COO for the Port Authority of Allegheny County (PAT) in Pittsburgh, PA; Six years as CEO of Broward County Transit (BCT) in Florida; 15 years as CEO at the Caltrain, California commuter rail line one the San Francisco Peninsula and in the Santa Clara Valley; 15 years as CEO of San Mateo County Transportation Authority; and Mike is currently an independent consultant for transportation. Ecolane could not be more thrilled to have him join the team as a software solutions consultant.

During his tenure as American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Chair, Mike promoted the influence of the association within and outside of the transportation industry and advanced cooperation, collegiality, inter-agency partnerships, and the unique place this industry holds in the lives of people and communities across the country.

After visiting the state-of-the-art IntelliRide Transdev call center in Omaha, NE to learn more about the user experience with Ecolane software, Mike noted right away the controlled, serene working environment that enabled staff to manage calls quickly and smoothly—something that is frankly unusual in a call-center operation. Moreover, this particular call center does not just manage calls limited to Omaha, NE, but also the overflow calls in Hawaii, Detroit, MI, and several other locations, which makes it especially impressive that calls and operations are handled as quickly and as smoothly as they are given the call volume.

“Ecolane DRT software enables ease, speed, and flexibility in selecting funding sources,” stated Mike. “Call centers are often chaotic due to constant phone calls and manual scheduling and dispatch, but because Ecolane has new-generation technology that facilitates on-demand service to its customers, I was surprised to learn this was not the case here.”

Ecolane’s automated continuously optimized DRT software, MDT technology, and automated passenger-facing mobile app each is bringing a new wave in the transportation industry. Forward-thinking agencies are looking to capitalize on the next-generation platforms. Ecolane is pleased that Mike has partnered with us to help facilitate the transition in this fast-changing industry so that agencies are prepared for the autonomy their customers will demand, the financial considerations of their operations, and the changing demographics of the country and their mobility needs.
